Eric Pulier, Entreprenuer, Philanthropist and Father

Eric Pulier graduated from Harvard and is an entrepreneur, technologist, author and philanthropist. He has four children and founded 15 companies.Eric Pulier has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for ventures he has founded or co-founded.

His personal page lists the following among the companies he founded or funded: Digital Evolution, US Interactive, Media Platform, Akana, Desktone, ServiceMesh, and the Enterprise Cloud Leadership Council, which merged into TM Forum.

Pulier is a prolific venture capitalist of funds and charities. His venture capital endeavors include Trident Capital, eCompanies and Monitor Ventures. Also, Pulier seeds startups in media and technology and has a tremendously successful track record of wins that have found successful financing.

In an interview with Daniel Budzinski, Pulier stated that he doesn’t think there is anything inherent in a particular person that gives them the courage to start a business. He also felt that where a person gets a degree does not define his capability. Pulier believes that the reason more people turn away from complex endeavors is that they see what can go wrong with all the moving parts. This is not something that seems to daunt Pulier himself.

He takes someone’s small idea and nurtures it into a fully-fledged startup commanding millions in capital. He also runs an ongoing concern as the owner of an upscale restaurant and nightclub in Santa Monica.

Service-oriented architecture, or SOA, is a concept that has defined many of Pulier’s projects. In his book, “Understanding Enterprise SOA,” Pulier attempts to get technologists and business people to look at things in a big way. The book is written in a mentoring style by Pulier and Hugh Taylor and has been well-received.

The book draws from the actual experiences of companies in diverse industries. Whether the reader is in manufacturing or genome research, “Understand Enterprise SOA” shows how to get an SOA to work.
